Christian testimonies

Sophie
I was born into a loving Christian family where I was taught the Bible from as early as I can remember. Going to Church was a normal part of my week. I learned about God’s Son, Jesus, and his death on the cross but they were just stories and had no effect on my everyday life. Church was about being with friends and enjoying herself. I thought that I would think about becoming a Christian when I was older.

Daydreaming was the habit for me during sermons but on one particular Sunday evening it was as though I was the only person in the Church and God was speaking to me directly.

I was not a Christian and I had no right to go to Heaven. What would happen if I was to die like this? I would face the judgment and how could I get rid of all the things I’d ever done wrong? My parents couldn’t save me and neither could my Bible-reading or Church-going. The only one who could save me was Jesus.

He had suffered and died for sins on the cross. Now it seemed so real to me; I could have a free pardon and all my sins could be washed away. I knew that I had to ask him for forgiveness and trust in him.

I began to seek God. I remember praying with my parents and on my own. I was praying for weeks and weeks. I had started to change but I had no assurance that I was truly a Christian.

Then one evening I was overwhelmed with a sense of peace with God. I knew I was saved. It wasn’t anything that I had done or deserved. It was all because of what Christ had done on the cross. It was all because of his love for me. I now wanted to be like him and to follow him. I love and belong to Christ. He is my Saviour and King and my closest Friend.
